Hello there!

I’m Danielle Mijo-Burch — an independent graphic designer and illustrator from Tacoma, WA, now based in Abbotsford, BC. I do communications, art, and design for a variety of U.S. and Canadian clients.

I got my start as a comic artist and layout designer for The Tacoma Ledger, the independent newspaper of the University of Washington-Tacoma. Over the next few years, I became Layout & Managing Editor, mentored a team of artists and designers, and oversaw the production of 60+ weekly issues while finishing a B.A. in Ethnic, Gender, and Labor Studies.

Since then, I have done multilingual design work for non-profits that serve immigrants and refugees, youth and elders, LGBTQ2S+ folks, and survivors of domestic violence. I’ve trained people in Adobe InDesign, taught workshops on design basics, and given talks on equity/justice concepts for creative professionals. Most recently, I worked at the University of the Fraser Valley to help increase the visibility of student and faculty research.

As a fat, queer, neurodivergent artist, I’m proud to use my creative superpowers to take on projects with purpose. Projects that address inequalities, fight for better tangible realities for marginalized communities, or just bring happiness to people who enjoy my work. (I draw lots of cute and silly things.)

You can find me bouncing back and forth between Abbotsford and Tacoma, sinking hours into Animal Crossing: New Horizons, listening to comedy and D&D podcasts, or sketching concept art for a picture book called Momsters.

My last name sounds like my-joe (as in, “that’s my cup of joe!”) and birch, like the tree.

Let’s have coffee over Zoom!
